400% Rise in No. of Advertisers on Facebook!

Despite the various privacy concerns and quit facebook day being faced by Facebook, the social networking website has declared that there has been a 4-fold increase in the number of advertisers since 2009! That’s really huge!

Various Facebook Ads

“We’re very well positioned as people come out of this current economic situation,” Facebook vice president of global sales Mike Murphy said in an interview at Facebook’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California. “What we’ve become is absolutely core to marketing campaigns.”

According to sources, Facebook displayed 176 billion ads in US in the first quarter, up from 70.6 billion a year earlier.

Without doubt, Facebook is taking on Google in the field of ads. While Google shows the ads based on various searches made by the users, Facebook shows the ads based on user’s profile content and personal information.

What do you think about this huge increase? Will you also run a Facebook ad campaign?

Facebook Clickjacking Attack on the Loose through the “Like” Feature!

For the last 24 hours, there has been a new clickjacking attack on the social networking website Facebook. It is said that hundreds of thousands of users have already been affected by this attack. The attack uses a combination of social engineering and clickjacking exploit and uses the Facebook’s “like” feature to spam the user’s profile. It affects the user’s profile when the he or she likes any of the messages spread by the spammers. Clicking on any of the links would lead him or her to an innocent-type looking liking, here is the screenshot of that:

When the user clicks anywhere on the page, the same message is published to his/her profile from a hidden iFrame.

If you think you’ve already fallen prey to this attack, you should clean up your profile any mischievous messages posted and all other suspicious links.

Bangladesh Blocks Facebook while Pakistan Lifts the Ban

Following Pakistan, Bangladesh has also banned the social-networking website Facebook after satirical images of the Prophet Muhammad and the country’s leaders were uploaded. According to the authorities, the ban is temporary and the website access would be restored when the images are removed. They also said that Facebook had also put up obnoxious images of the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, current prime minister Sheikh Hasina and leader of opposition Khaleda Zia.

While Bangladesh banned Facebook, Pakistan lifted the ban after the company officials apologized for a page that was offensive to Muslims and removed its contents.

“Restore Facebook. We don’t want to block access to information” -  Justice Chaudhry told the court. He also asked the government to develop a system which blocked the access to blasphemous content on the internet.

While the countries blocked Facebook, there were some local social networking sites trying to get the traffic of Facebook to them saying that they were the “local Facebook”.

Today, I want to share some thoughts on how we’ve evolved to this point, what we’re doing now to give you more control, and what you can expect from us going forward.

Looking back, the first version of Facebook was very simple. There were almost no features. There were no status updates, photo albums or messages. There was no News Feed or Platform. The only people who could use it were college students in the United States.

The feature will be rolled out to all the users in the coming days. Till then, you may want to check out the new Facebook privacy page.
